OW: A Beautiful Day

June 10, 2009

Remember when I said this last Pink Saturday’s anniversary?

Oh, I’m just saving this one for future use 🙂

Well, that future came a few days ago 🙂

What was it like? .  .  .

It’s been raining real hard these past few days. Monsoon rain, they say. But that day, the sky was clear.

blue sky 1

Although, a few minutes after I took this picture, the sky turned gray and it’s cold again. It has been like that (a little sunny, then gone again – a cycle) all day. But still I say, it was a beautiful day.

What did I have planned, you might wonder? .  .  . Nothing really.

I don’t know. It’s been like that all these years and I pretty much prefer it that way. (Of course as a child, Mama would always prepare something for me and my friends – a party! 🙂 )

As I was growing, I preferred a “not so much of a fuss” whenever the day comes. I think it started way on my younger years. Probably later in my elementary years. Ma would ask me what would I want for that day and I would say “nothing really”. I’m content with what surrounds me that day whatever it may be or whoever they may be.

Then again, I guess I just shy away with all the attention that I might be receiving 🙂 I like celebrating a friend’s birthday but not so much on mine. Weird, huh? 🙂

While taking these pictures and uploading them, I noticed how intricate the branches of this tree is.

See how crazy they are and just following the directions they want to go? Notice also that they’re not that straight but are all crooked?

Have I been like that? Have I led my life that way? .  .  . I guess so. It was never a straight line and I don’t think it’ll ever be.

The people I met – those who made my life beautiful and those who’ve caused so much pain – can somehow influence you . . . change you.

Have I changed? Oh yes.  For the good? For the bad? Oh I hope the former. But I’ve grown.

The pace and the path that I’m going is not like this though .  .  .

.  .  . so straight and so sure. And I don’t want to. I want to be able to enjoy simple pleasures that life has to offer and do what my wee little heart loves to do. For one can never really tell how long I’m able / given the opportunity to appreciate the beauties and gifts God gave to us.

Cause see, no matter how crooked my path have been, just like the branches on the tree directly above, it still stands tall in spite of its crookedness 🙂 like those trees oh so straight 🙂

And so I say again, it is a beautiful day.  .  .  .  . it has been, it still is, and will be. 🙂

Now, care to join me?

Sit with me outside the house (in your porch, on the steps, on your bench, or maybe under a tree).

And let’s eat cake right out of our cup! 🙂

Happy Outdoor Wednesday!

I love photos looking up through great trees like these! Beautiful!! Happy O.W.

  4. June 10, 2009 11:36 pm

Hand over a cup o’ cake and let me join you enjoy those beautiful trees! Happy Birthday, Li!

Baguio has so much to offer, it’s terrain and ecosystem is all its own I think, separate from the rest of the Philippines where the heat and humidity reign. With those trees, you can imagine you are in a completely different part of the world and just keep on imagining… *sigh* I wish to see it soon…

Glad you joined in today, I always check your blog for new posts and often wonder, what are you seeing, thinking, doing today while enjoying what our country has to offer? (LOL, can’t you tell, I’m green with envy?)

Have a great Wednesday my friend. I am feeling much better and thank you for stopping by whenever you can. Hugs!

Li, Happy Birthday to you! What a lovely introspecitive post. The analogy of your growth like the trees is just wonderful. ( no matter how crooked my path have been, just like the branches on the tree directly above, it still stands tall in spite of its crookedness) I think this is just great writing!!
You should make up cards with the 2nd photo and this saying…It’s just beautiful….

Those tall pines look like they could be from around here! The tree shots you got are great. I love tree branches that just seem to go everywhere in jagged lines.

Very introspective and ensightfull. I need a recipe of cake in a cup.

Happy Birthday Li, your tree photos are beautiful. I would love to share a cup of cake with you to celebrate your day. I also loved the analogy of your life with the shape of the trees. Very well written text. Enjoy your cake.

It’s a beautiful day that God made!

  18. June 11, 2009 8:20 pm

While those things that make our “branches crooked” are not always fun…they add that character and interest to our personality and make us who we are.

    Love the analogy.

  19. June 11, 2009 8:59 pm

stick a candle in mine and yours and lets celebrate! tomorrow is my birthday!!!
    have a really lovely day.

  20. June 11, 2009 9:20 pm

Great tree pictures. The crooked branches are interesting. I am experiencing some days kind of like you describe and learning to enjoy and to dwell with the Lord through out. With my husband’s retirement and his days spend as a full time student – in the house, mostly on the computer or reading/writing, my day is open. There are lots of projects that need to be completed, plenty of work. But, I had hoped these days would hold more pockets of time for us to be together – doing nothing except enjoying each other. Of course, I am thankful he has the call and the ability to get his masters in theology and see how God leads after that. So, I hope I will spend these days in activities that honor Him.
Have you actually baked the cake in the cup or just dipped it into the cup? I have a recipe for baking a chocolate cake in a cup.
    Enjoy your day.

I’ll be right over! ha. that looks really yummy!

Your pictures are beautiful, what I really enjoyed is the scripture in your sidebar.

    Thank you for sharing today!

Oh I so love this post!!!! I love looking at the trees and you sound so much like me! When I was a little girl I’d always just sit outside on our patio and daydream…I still do! I sit on our dock and just enjoy the simple pleasures that nature has to offer…and as you know, there is always a message she is trying to tell us.
I agree, my own birthdays I could just let pass without a word, but I sure hope yours was happy…sounds like it was! Thanks for visiting today…xo

Celebrate your birthdays. Reflect on the year and set goals for the new one. Forget New Years and make Birthday Resolutions. Have cake, open a gift even if it is one you give yourself…you at least know you will like it…Celebrate.
Happy Birthday or as my friend always says, and I don’t know why…Hippo Birdies to Ewe.

  29. June 12, 2009 8:24 am

Such a lovely and thought provoking post. Like you, I never really follow the straight path. My branches have many bends, but the bends are just that LIFE. How boring would my life be if every detail was thought out and planned. I love and embrace the unexpected.
Now, wanna share some of that cake?

  30. June 12, 2009 12:04 pm

Li ~ Happy Birthday to you. A beautiful post – the sky is so blue.

  31. June 12, 2009 1:58 pm

cake in a cup sounds delish!

  32. June 12, 2009 8:28 pm

Happy Birthday indeed! That was lovely – as a child I’d lay on my back under lilac or other bushes, looking up through their branches. People thought I was teched in the head, maybe I was;-)

Tomorrow for Pink Saturday I’m featuring a slideshow of lovely flowers from my Dad’s gardens around his home on the St. Croix River in Wisconsin.

Today I have a post on Slide, an application that lets you have slideshows on your blog, website whatever.

    Take Care, J

Happy Birthday! The picture of the crooked tree is striking with the emphasis of the dark crooked branches against anything else in the background. Did the rain cause this contrast? Interesting. Into every life a little rain must fall…and so the “crooked” tree stands out. What a great thought for today.

Happy Birthday Li!! The cake looks so gooey and good!! Enjoy.

I love tha anology here. You are insightful and express yourself so well. I remember bits of a quote I read somewhere, can’t remember the author either, but it said something to the effect of not wanting to measure her life in how long it is, but also by how wide it is. I think that is so true when you apply this quote to the growth of a tree. Up and out in all directions. Such is life, of course.

Have a wonderful weekend, my friend.

That cake in a cup looks delicious! This was a lovely post. The photos are lovely, and your thoughts are lovely. None of us stay on the straight path all of the time, and isn’t it wonderful that you noticed that the tree grows that way also. It’s all part of growing and yes, changing, and hopefully changing for the better. Good post. laurie
