Pink Saturday: Phantom “Hair” Syndrome

July 25, 2009

.

E1

.

OK, there really is no such thing πŸ™‚ But there is what you call “Phantom Limb Syndrome”. It’s when a person has been amputated and yet he still feels like his leg is still there.
.

Well, that’s just how I feel with my hair at this time. I always fall short . . . every time I run my fingers through my hair, that is LOL
.

F1

.

Just last month my hair was right down to my elbows. And by the end of the month I decided, enough with the long hair. Let’s try something short. And oohhhhhhhhh it was short! Right now, my hair is just below my chin. Well it’s asymmetrical (with the back shorter).
.

Oh yeah, I was shocked for a moment there. And shocked I was too for he didn’t leave a teeny weeny portion of my hair uncut like I told him to. 😦
.

A2

.

The hairdresser asked if I had just broke with someone cause the change I’m going for is way too drastic. Do women really do that?
.

I just had to laugh and said, “Uummmm I guess I’m the exception to the rule?” πŸ™‚
.

B4

.

Seems like when a woman is going through changes in her life and want to start anew, the first thing that changes is the hair. Do you think so? Did that kind of situation happened to you?
.

I never really thought about it. It certainly hasn’t crossed my mind when I entered the parlor that day.
.

C1
.

So since I can’t do my hair in ponytails anymore, I’ll have to resort to hairbands and clips for my hair. And hairbands I make! I mean crocheted πŸ™‚
.

It was actually fun thinking of what to make and trying it on πŸ™‚
.

D1
.

These are just the pinks I came up with. It’s the extra thread from the Marie necklace I knotted (and boy that was a lot of knotting involved LOL).
.

See, I’m just putting it to good use LOL.
.

A3
.

There’s a lot of trial and error here LOL especially that floral one. Whew! They aren’t that bad, don’t you think (for someone who hasn’tΒ  crocheted in a looooong time)? I wish the beads have a little more sparkle. But I don’t have one at hand so those will just have to do πŸ™‚
.

The pink pot is from Trashalou of Trashaloucan. Her friend made this pretty pot. Mails do arrive late. This was supposed to be from last month. Thanks Trashalou!
.

B2
.

My hairband creations and the pretty pink pot sure look good together, yes? πŸ™‚
.

I think I’ll make some more, maybe a bunch of flowers orΒ  something with multicolored circles with buttons! πŸ™‚
.
.
.
.

Happy Pink Saturday!
.

Li, I love your hairbands! Pink and black is a terrific color combination, isn’t it? The beads are a really nice touch. Blessings to you, and have a great day!

  2. July 25, 2009 10:09 pm

    Very pretty!
    Happy Pink Saturday.
    Enjoy your weekend Li.

  3. July 25, 2009 10:21 pm

I love your work! I’m just learning how to crochet. Very slow going.
Yes, we can cut our hair when we break off with someone and I cut my hair when my mom died. It’s like starting over.
    Happy Pink Saturday!

  4. July 25, 2009 10:33 pm

Lol, I’ve enjoyed reading your post – the head bands are rather cute.

    Have a happy pink week!

    ciao for now,

Oooo, your pinks are just scrumptious…I just love the hairbands. I think my favorite is the tiny flower with the beads. Happy Pink Saturday, have a most wonderful weekend.

Oh, Li I love your head bands. They are so cute. No, I have never cut my hair because of a man! No way!!! lol

would love to see a picture of your new hair cut!!!!

    happy PS

  7. July 25, 2009 11:37 pm

Hello Li, I am finally getting a moment to respond to your many faithful visits to my posts. I appreciate it so much. I once had hair down to my elbows and yes, I finally thought I should grow up and cut my hair. I had a gypsey cut first. Multiple layers and shoulder length. Then real short with lots of curls. I would love to see a photo of you in your new hair cut.

Your crocheted hair bands are so pretty in pink. The pot is very sweet in pink as well. I love the way you told your story with photos.

Have a wonderful PS and happy haircut!!!

    Hugs…Jeanne

Your hairbands are so pretty Li but I wanted to see them in your hair too. I’ll bet you look really cute with a short hair cut. I’ve been thinking about cutting mine short again but then I would miss being able to have a pony tail.
    Have a wonderful weekend!

    HAPPY PINK SATURDAY LI,
    YOUR CROCHET WORK IS BEAUTIFUL.
I NEVER CUT MY HAIR OVER A GUY BUT MY HUSBAND AND I WERE MARRIED IN 1973….
I HAD HAIR SO LONG I COULD SET ON IT….TWIGGY WAS THE STYLE…IF YOU ARE NOT FAMILIAR WITH TWIGGY AND HER HAIR CUT GOOGLE HER….BUT I ONE DAY DECIDED TO CUT MY LONG HAIR OFF TO A TWIGGY CUT…….I THOUGHT MY HUSBAND WAS GOING TO DIVORCE ME HE WAS SO MAD….I TOLD HIM, “IT’S JUST HAIR!”

It must be a funny feeling now your hair is short !

  11. July 26, 2009 3:44 am

Love your headbands, Li! Your crochet is beautiful. I have never cut my hair over a man, or even picked a style for a man.

I bet it feels very different with short hair! Happy Pink Saturday!

  12. July 26, 2009 4:01 am

Love your headbands. Once you get used to it, you’ll love the freedom of shorter hair. I know I do (especially as I am suffering hot flushes). My hair is really thick and very heavy – and used to be down to the middle of my shoulderblades. I have never worn it down, it didn’t suit me: so always up, in a French pleat, a scrunchy, ponytail, French plait. I could never stand my hair around my face.

So now, it isn’t just SHORT – it’s been a hot & humid summer, and it’s now cut to within an inch of its life, but with the hair soft & feathered around neck and ears, so it doesn’t look at all masculine. All I do is wash it, comb it, rub some gel through, then flick with my fingers and leave it! I haven’t regretted it for a second!

Sounds like you have a traditional graduated bob – you’re going to love what you can do with it. This is one elegant cut! Happy Pink Saturday, sweetie!

  13. July 26, 2009 4:50 am

Yor pink crocheted flower is so pretty. Looks like you can get a lot of use of it too. Love your pink pottery vase too…Christine

  14. July 26, 2009 4:51 am

I know just what you mean because I have the same way after a hair cut.

I love your headbands. They look fantastic.

    Happy Pink Saturday.

  15. July 26, 2009 6:49 am

You are so funny, you forgot to mention how weird it must feel when you wash your hair and nothings there……he he too funny. I love the bands by the way, Happy Pink Saturday, Char

  16. July 26, 2009 8:57 am

    Hi Li!
I loved the photos with the running commentary…the headband is fabulous! I’d love to see the haircut though…lol!

  17. July 26, 2009 9:25 am

Hi Li! I got my hair chopped off just ONCE. People tell me it looked nice, but I am far too fickle to ever make such a move again. I like changing the way I do my hair from day to day!.. So I prefer it longer! I’m trying to remember if it was an episode/incident of any kind, that was the catalyst for such a move at the time, but I don’t remember! LOL! I do love your headbands!.. VERY PRETTY!! Happy Pink Saturday, and hope you’re enjoying a wonderful weekend!

  18. July 26, 2009 9:49 am

    Hi Li,
Your headbands are beautiful. I love the colors together and the flower is lovely. You are so talented.
I bet your new do is gorgeous. I cut my hair very short once and I cried for 3 days. It got better as it grew out, but I learned right away, I can not go that short. And you are right, I was making a change and thought my hair needed changing too.
Love the pot. It does look pretty with your headbands.
Have a nice rest of the weekend.
    Happy creating.
    Hugs, Celestina Marie

  19. July 26, 2009 10:15 am

napangiti ako. kasi i chopped my own hair! i was going through a rough time early this month, and my thick long hair was adding more weight to my already “heavy” head. so, without having second thoughts, i gathered few strands of hair sa front and snipped it just below my chin to serve as guide, then i flipped my hair sa front and chopped the rest of it following the guide. when i flipped back, voila! layered hair. hehe, buti na lang maayos lumabas, nakatipid pa ako. πŸ˜€

love all your “pinks” today. i haven’t tried crocheting with beads. galing! and the ribbon, it is lovely! loved reading your post with pics in between.

    have a nice day, li!

  20. July 26, 2009 3:12 pm

Happy Pink Saturday, Li! Your crochet headbands are so darling! Love the flower one!

No worries about your hair, it will grow back! (Been there done that, keeping it long now! lol)

    Enjoy your weekend!

Thank you for your visit to my blog and the sweet comment, sugar! I’ve never given my hair so much thought! I’ve just considered it “there” for me to “fluff and pouf”, honey. But I love your hair bands, chick.

  23. July 26, 2009 8:21 pm

    Hi Li,
You do beautiful handwork. Love the crocheted headbands.

I had hair so long that I could sit on it. I experienced a similar situation, at the salon. I asked the stylist to cut my hair to my jawline……she said “are you sure?” Then when I told her that my husband didn’t know, I was planning to surprise him, she just stood there with her mouth open…..speechless! She finally cut my hair, and my husband loved it, but each time I went into the shop, she always referred to me as “the one who cut her long hair short.”

    Best Wishes,
    Kay

  24. July 26, 2009 9:06 pm

Love the headbands! I cut my hair short from butt length in sixth grade and never looked back. I grew it all the way to my shoulders once, but since then….never!!

  25. July 26, 2009 10:41 pm

Happy Pink Saturday. What that great pink post, now I am dying to see your new hair style Li….xo Lynn

  27. July 27, 2009 3:25 am

    Hi Li
Well I sure know about phantom limb syndrome. My dad lost both his legs in the war, and he always felt the “pain” even though his legs were not there. As a kid it always puzzled me. My friends were always very curious about it all.
I wish you had showed us your new “doo”. Love you hair bands.
    Happy PS my friend.
    Love Claudie

Cold, dark, misty in my neck of the woods. My perennials are hiding and I am wearing a sweatshirt. Coming here today made my day a little brighter. Thanks so much.

Goodness, you really cut off some hair, didn’t you? BTW, those bugs of yours always make my itch!

I’m a little late with my Pink Saturday visits because I had my grandsons for the weekend and couldn’t tear myself away from them☺

  34. July 27, 2009 11:12 pm

I’m SO sorry you aren’t loving your hair! I hate that. I haven’t cut my hair for about a year, but I think I need to. Actually I think all the Petries need a haircut. I was hoping to see a picture of you with the new haircut at the end of the post. πŸ™‚

  35. July 28, 2009 8:11 pm

your hairbands are so cute πŸ™‚ i get my hair cut short, about your new length every summer… it is easier … and a lot cooler than having long hair … sorry your hairdresser didn’t listen to you … i have that problem a lot

  36. July 28, 2009 10:07 pm

    Hi Li,

I think you have done a marvelous job on the hairbands. I never would have guessed that it had been awhile since you have crocheted. Interesting story about your hair but I guess it does make sense that women would go drastically shorter if they are making changes in their lives. For some women, their long hair is a security blanket so cutting it should could be a sign that confidence has returned.

Thank you so much for your visit to my Pink Saturday post. Hope your Tuesday is full of magical surprises.

    Cheers! =D

  38. July 29, 2009 6:37 am

These hair bands are so beautiful! I wish I could wear something like that but I have baby fine hair. Every day is a hair struggle for me LOL
I love the pink flower. Sooo pretty. I hope you have a lovely day.

  39. July 29, 2009 7:25 am

The headbands are perfect and I love the trashalou vase. I crochet some and would love to get to do more. I hope to participate in Pink Saturday this week. Been so busy. I am thinking about cutting y hair but it is already much shorter than yours. Seems like once you’ve had it shorter, you don’t like the way it feels for it to grow longer. I think I’ll go for a really sort style. Then again, I might chicken out.
    Good to “visit”again!

    Love,
    Jennifer

  40. July 29, 2009 9:56 am

Li, I love your headbands, they are really unique and pretty. I wish I learned to crochet, I knit.
I usually wear a plastic tortise shell type headband. I hate to have hair fall on my face, yours look alot more comfortable. I think you should post a pic of your new do with the headband!

Your prior tea post with the youtube clip was very neat. Is there really such a thing as that? I would love to try it. That was a really cool video, I would love to see it in person. I wonder if that was something that happened over hours and was sped up. Thanks for sharing it. Mary

  41. July 30, 2009 12:37 am

    Hi Li
I love all your sweet pink headbands πŸ™‚ You can never have too many headbands!
I’ve done the extreme hair cutting as well & I seem to enjoy it. Although, my hair has not been down my back since high school. My hubby tends to like it longer & I’ve really liked the shorter haircuts for the last few years. When I was pregnant I saw my sister’s hairdresser & she was afraid I was making a crazy decision because I was going really short. I assured her I go through periods where I grow my hair then cut it for fun πŸ™‚
    Take care

Hello LI, I came over to thank you for your visit and comment today. I was looking for a photo of your haircut. Come on you can do it. Just one little snap of the camera. BIG smile here.

did you totally overdo it with the shampoo the first couple of times? or how about when you went to brush it? it’s so funny when you change your hair how many things seem different like that.
i love to change my hair…the cut, the highlights…
i haven’t had your cut yet with it shorter in back but it is on my dream list.
right now i am growing it out. i haven’t had long hair in over 8 years.
time to mix it up πŸ˜‰
i like the flower headband….very cute!
    have a wonderful day~

I love your headbands, you’re so clever!! I don’t know if I could be as brave as you with getting so much hair cut off, but who knows when it’s time for it to go it goes πŸ™‚

  48. August 1, 2009 11:05 pm

    Hi Li,
I love your pink crocheted flower with the beads! Wouldn’t that be cute pinned on a hat? I had hair down to my elbows once. I still wear it bobbed with it a bit shorter in the back. I can still wear it in a ponytail too which is great on hot days. Happy Pink Saturday!

    Blessings,

    Hi Li!
What a cute hairband…I wish I could crochet. My grandmom tried to teach me years ago, but I just never got it!
I have tried short hair one time in my life in high school. It was an OH NO experience….I swore I’d never do that again and haven’t yet. I have fine hair…I always get so tired of hairdressers telling me I have “little girl’s hair”. LOL So I’m kind of stuck in the ways I can wear it.
I bet yours is gorgeous…you must share a photo!

  50. August 2, 2009 7:15 pm

    Happy Pink Saturday!

Loved your hairband creations and pot!!! I recently had my hair cut, and I was about hairless. The thing is my hair grows like a weed so I don’t keep too short for too long. Thank you for visiting my “Pink Saturday”. I have only had a blog for about a week so I love to receive comments. Hope your weekend is a good one! Vicki

Beautiful pink things. I love the hair band – I went short last February and was asked the same question. I just needed a change.
