Pink Saturday: Pink Beads + Thread

July 31, 2010

.

Hello Pink ladies (and gentlemen?)Β  participating and friends and new visitors (if there are any :-))
.

I tried something new (new for me, that is) and been waiting to share today. What is it?
.

Ta Da!
.

.

I‘m in the experimenting mode in my crochet journey now. Oh definitely learning and learning (though at my own slow pace, I notice πŸ™‚ ).
.

It’s a first for me to try and crochet with beads! The first tries are aarrgggghhhhhhhhhh LOL Well, it’s the only way I can describe it.
.

Oh, remember how I had difficulty with the pink slipper? This is worse! I don’t know, maybe it has something to do with the thread I’m using. When I checked the tag, it says it’s half polyester and half “whatchamacallit” heheheeehhehe Well, it is slippery, glittery, and so if the beads that keeps on “running” doesn’t unravel this glittery part of the thread,Β  the thread itselfΒ  keeps on tightening the preceeding stitches. Like I said – – arrgggghhhhhhh
.

.

See I didn’t get to finish it at all. But I do like the result! πŸ™‚ I like that the beads are threaded in random and that the stitches are not uniformed (reminds me of squiggles πŸ™‚ )
.

Originally, I wanted to work with silver wires. But I’m guessing as an “experiment”, it’ll be quite pricey. So I made do with what’s available – a “silvery” (I know it’s not a word πŸ™‚ ) thread, just so I can see if I like it.Β  I sure do!
.

I think it’ll look nice as a jewelry piece, yes? Very much looking forward to actually creating one!
.

Now, onto the PS challenge . . .
.

Remember my previous PS post? I did tell you I was gonna share ladies who I have come to know through this event way way before . . . and who also happens to be participating for this week (after all it is a PS challenge, and so you can visit them too ok?)
.

Meet . . .
.

.

This is Caren’s blog (go on, click on the link and it’ll open in a new window πŸ™‚ ). Do you happen to know her already? Does fairy doors ring a bell? πŸ™‚
.

Yup, you heard it, she creates these teeny weeny doors. You see, it is actually a magical door. Why so? Well, place it on a corner of your wall (or any part if you like) and it becomes an entryway for fairies into the real world!
.

Speaking of glittery (since I notice that that word has come up in my pink sharing πŸ™‚ ), every magical door has it’s own fairy dust. You know, for a little child (and the little child in us) to sprinkle and dream of magic!
.

Have you seen her studio? My, were there lots of fairy doors. I’m thinking, were there also lots of teeny weeny hands helping Caren create these doors? Ok, ok maybe she did it all by herself . . . then again, who does the sprinkling of magic to each of these doors anyway? HHHHHHhhhhhmmmmmmmmm (that sure is a lot of “doors” I’ve mentioned LOL)
.
.
.

Happy Pink Saturday!

That is very pretty! I just can’t imagine how hard it is to crotchet that way. I guess I have seen courses where they say you can knit beaded purses! Sounds very complicated! Hope you are having a great Pink Saturday and keep up the good work! Sherri : )

Great creative project – one of our artists corchets ribbons into scarves – I am always amazed at what a little imagination can creat! Thanks for the warm welcome.

I have always wanted to make something with beads and yarn. The colors are beautiful. If you finish your little project I hope you will show it to us. I hope you are having a wonderful summer.

It looks beautiful! Keep going. And although I don’t crochet, I do work with wire for jewelry. Try out the 26 gauge wire (silver or copper coated with silver), it is soft enough for what you are doing. And since the wire holds form unlike thread, your beads won’t slip away. If you do try silver wire try “half hard”.

    Happy Pink Saturday!

I’m a veteran crocheter and crocheting beads isn’t hard unless you try it with..ummmm…this metallic, slick thread that loves to separate on you…LOL

Been there, tried it, done it, messed it up..never to try again! It’s enough to ruin the crochet experience. If you want to use a smaller thread than size 10 due to the small bead opening then try a size 12 thread. There are many variegated colorways as well as solids.

Of course, I’ve seen the bead crochet with the metallic thread that is exquisite. I always take a deep bow to their obvious magical powers. β™₯

    Happy PiNk,

Li ~ Thank you so much for featuring my blog!!! I am embarrassed to say I have taken the fairy doors down for now. I have been so busy that I just don’t have time to make each one. But I truly appreciate you for thinking of me.

Your bead crochet looks beautiful but intense. : ) Wish I had the patience for something like that. Can’t wait to see how it turns out. Please keep us updated.

    Happy PS to you!

This looks a real labour of love – I adore the glitter. It’ll be SO worth it when you finish it.

What a shame Blogger is playing up – I think it’s all the new changes they’ve been installing.

Happy Pink Saturday (I know it’s Sunday now) and thanks so much for the birthday wishes.

    Love from London!

Hi sweetie…gosh I don’t know what you’re making with the crocheted beads, if it’s apparel it should be OK. Jewelry is a entirely different thing. And, all I can say is that the only way to learn is to just do it. Making mistakes is how you learn NOT to do it and/or it won’t work. Let me know if you need jewelry-making advice. Just send a message. Thank you for coming to see me today, loved your comment. xx’s Marsha

Girl, you have much more patience than I do! Keep working at it, I can’t wait to see what else you create when you really get going since this piece is so cute!
I love those fairy doors too, they are so darned adorable! happy Pink and I sincerely hope you have some sunshine headed your way!

Dear Li, you do write the sweetest post. My grand-daughter is really into fairies right now. I made her a fairy wand for her birthday. I will definitely check out your Caren’s blog for a fairy door for Boo’s boudoir. πŸ™‚ Maybe a Christmas gift. I can’t imagine crocheting with beads…..little tiny things drive me nuts although I do work with small things and drive myself crazy…why? I don’t know. πŸ™‚ Learn to make some pretty crochet flowers with the beads in them. Sell some and I will buy them. πŸ™‚ Yes, my place is where you saw the cupboard with the party hats in it. I love making them. Have a beautiful week Li. xo Lynn
