Pink Saturday: My Little Friend :-)

The first time I followed a pattern stitch by stitch, I end up with this . . .

😦 I know, it turned into something even I have no idea what I’m making. Somehow what I created is far from the picture in the pattern. It was a sad moment. Oh well. That is me being horrible at patterns or maybe my stitches were wrong.

But one helpful thing I have learned from following it was how to increase stitches to form a somewhat round head. And with that in mind, I tweaked and tweaked, tried something else that I hoped would work and came up with this one . . .

Oh don’t mind the bow. I know it’s a little . . . a lot bigger for this little one LOL I think the length of the bow is the same as her body – but it doesn’t matter, right? 🙂

My very first Kokeshi doll! What’s Kokeshi? It is a Japanese wooden doll with a bigger head than the torso and without arms and feet. Mine’s a crocheted version 🙂

I know she is not perfect. She still has some loose threads on her, her head’s kinda wiggly and tilting (maybe because the bow’s too heavy LOL) and the thread kinda separated from all the undoing of stitches.

But that’s ok. I still love her so, even with her imperfections. She made me smile when I finished her and still does 🙂

She is, again, one of the crochet project’s I have attempted during the Holidays (with the afghan and slipper and a fingerless glove for next Saturday). I’d like to experiment more on these dollies. Maybe make her  a little bigger and her body hollow so I can keep a secret note inside 🙂 Or maybe a key chain or some kind of  accessory – my, the possibilities!

But this weekend, I’m trying to make a friend for her. Hopefully I get to share it with you earlier next week – maybe on Monday or Tuesday 🙂 (It’s not the one standing beside her – that was the “unknown form” from the first picture 🙂 )

Last week I get to meet Pam of Treasures-n-Textures. I saw her altered book entitled “How To Be Happy” and was so curious as to what was inside. She was so nice to send me the 1st batch of images of what’s inside. Looking forward to the rest. They’re pink too! Maybe she’ll share it on her blog on future Pink Saturdays 🙂 Thanks Pam.
